Blood & Chrome: Cancelled Before It Began

According to Deadline.com, Blood & Chrome will not be moving forward as a TV series on Syfy. Does this shock anyone?

Feeling poorly for all those that worked hard to produce the two-hour pilot. These people deserve medals of honor for bravery in the face of clear adversity.

To be fair, Blood and Chrome was originally going to be a web series. Then, they said they were considering it as a show for broadcast. Now, it’s probably going to be a webseries again. So, it’s really just gonna be what it set out to be in the first place.

Honestly, I don’t mind it being on the web. 1) cause that’s where TV’s going anyway, and it would be great to have a big franchise start it off, and 2) I wasn’t thrilled about the idea of Blood and Chrome to begin with. I LOVE the BSG universe. Loved BSG (even the ending), and adored Caprica, because it was the opposite side of the coin. We had the military’s side of the story with BSG, and Caprica gave us the civilian story. This is giving us….more military? It feels like an Adama rehash for the MTV set. I dunno… I mean, I’ll watch it, because I love the universe, but if I never see it, I won’t exactly be sad.

Deciding not to continue it beyond the pilot (prepare for unanswered questions) before even getting the ratings is idiotic, especially after fan enthusiasm went up sharply following the leak of the trailer. But, as others have pointed out, they’ve already flip-flopped a dozen times on this project, so who knows what they’ll do?

No surprise indeed, but as stated, it was originally intended to be an online series, so at least they haven’t written it off altogether.

Frankly, not having it on TV maybe be better. No worry about editing language, violence, and maybe even nudity (last one maybe less likely, I admit). There’s also less room for Syfy to cock this one up, like moving around airtimes/dates. Also, the popularity of the show won’t be measured by the archaic ratings system they use for television. This will give a more direct window into how many people view the series.

Mars, are you saying that online series doesn’t automatically equal not moving beyond a pilot?

It’s better off not being on TV. We get to watch it without any ad breaks. But the real question is why make it in the first place? Personally, I’d prefer to see more of Caprica. Finish it off the way it was intended.

You know what, I forgot about this shows existence after I abandoned watching anything produced by this channel. Caprica was the final straw to me and the only show I remotely watched after that was Eureka occasionally but they screwed those guys over as well which finished them off completely.

I have moved on, ironically to Anime and Japanese based dramas and films as US content is down the toilet at the moment, although the Japanese do have a lot of reality TV they also have shed loads of other content worth watching unlike the UK and US which is now predominantly reality TV or crappy Soaps there is barely anything scripted.

At least the Japanese create a show and actually finish it off and not let it get chopped in the middle, I have never once seen an Anime or Japanese drama end incomplete without some form of ending as they show commitment to a product they are creating!

Seeing how good some of the shows were actually made me start learning the Japanese language (something I have always wanted to do), so not only did I switch TV to a different country I started to learn something that might come in useful one day.
