Captain Ahab – the musicians behind the robotic love song Zoe Graystone was dancing to in Friday’s episode, Gravedancing – has decided to release it to download for free! Get “Was Love” at their bandcamp.com site.
For more information on how that song and others from Gravedancing came to be, check out Bear McCreary’s blog. He has a fascinating look at how the themes of Caprica are developed along with clips of the songs as he describes them to listen to. One highlight is the song from the radio in Sam Adama’s car and the eerie way that the instruments from Caprica were blended in to underscore Amanda Graystone’s climbing dread.

Also a better quality version of Sam Adama’s ringtone has been uploaded as well as the version of Clarice Willow’s ringtone that aired on Friday.

Examiner.com interviewed Bear McCreary, composer for Caprica, recently about his current projects. In the interview they talk about the differences between making a soundtrack for Battlestar Galactica and Caprica, how Bear almost wasn’t chosen to work on Caprica, and his compositional process.
McCreary spoke of relief when given the breadth of how Caprica should be scored:
“Caprica was like a breath of fresh air. I got a small chamber-sized orchestra together, and I was able to fall back on just writing, technique, and ideas, and the spectacle of the score wasn’t part of it.”
