Syfy has just announced that the second half of Season 1 of Caprica will be airing in the U.S. in January of 2011. The trailer for the next half of the season will be shown at a panel at the San Diego Comic Con this Friday featuring Ron Moore, David Eick, Sasha Roiz and Alessandra Toressani. Read the full press release at TVbythenumbers.com.
CineTVBuzz will be attending the Monte Carlo Television Festival (June 6-10) in a round table with Alessandra Torresani. They’ve asked The Caprica Times to ask our readers if they have any questions for the actress that plays Zoe Graystone. At the festival they will ask her and afterwards they will be posting a video of her responses. If you would like to ask Alessandra a question please send an e-mail to The Caprica Times with your name and question up until Sunday, June 6th.
Season 1 of Caprica is now available for the US via video on demand from Amazon.com and presale from Bestbuy.com. Best Buy is currently offering an expedited shipping arrival date of July 29th which leads The Caprica Times to believe that Season 1 will be released on July 27th (as all entertainment media is normally released on Tuesdays in the US).
End of Line proved to be a nice cap to the sometimes faltering ratings that Caprica saw in Season 1.0. Airlock Alpha has a detailed article explaining what all the number mean. Regarding End of Line they mention, “‘Caprica’ finished the first half of the season with a 1.3 household rating, representing 1.8 million viewers on average, and just over 900,000 adults 18 to 49 and 1.1 million adults 25 to 54.”

Following Syfy’s acquisition of Friday Night SmackDown, many have questioned what would happen to the shows that ran on Friday nights. In a recent press release, Dave Howe, Syfy President, said, “With Tuesday night, a proven winner for our original drama series including Warehouse 13, there is bigger opportunity for series such as Stargate Universe, Sanctuary and Caprica to thrive on a night with a significantly larger number of viewers available to watch live.”
No word yet on when Caprica will be returning or if it will be renewed for a second season.
While Caprica goes on hiatus unofficially until the Fall season, the actors of Caprica are beginning to toil in side projects:
Richard Harmon has been cast as Danny Reyes in the upcoming indie movie, Judas Kiss. Danny is a gay college student who comes to a crossroads in his life where he finally has a chance to escape his past. Richard played Heracles in the V-World who was known as Tad in the real world on Caprica.
Leah Gibson will be playing a romantic lead in another upcoming indie film titled Indie Jonesing. Leah played Emmanuelle, the V-World representation of Joseph Adama’s friend Evelyn on Caprica.
Peter, administrator of the German Caprica fansite, Caprica-City.de, and the official fansite for Luciana Carro, LucianaCarro.com, notified the Caprica times that Magda Apanowicz (Lacy Rand) and Luciana Carro (Pryah – Daniel’s Media Advisor) will be appearing at a special Caprica screening during the Toronto Comic Con to answer questions from fans of the show. The screening begins on Friday at 5pm so if you’re in the area get your tickets now!
The Caprica Times joined the crowd at yesterday’s Paley Center Caprica event. Those who attended were treated to the next two episodes of Caprica, Ghosts in the Machine and End of Line. We were asked not to give away anything that happens, however in the spirit of a good tease I’d like to share some cryptic clues with you (Double quotes are from the episodes, single are from outside unrelated sources):
The tension heats up between Daniel and his robot daughter.
This isn’t the last we’ve seen of Caesar (the Graystone’s dog).
“How do you kill someone?”
“It doesn’t bother you that you don’t know what she looks like?”
“I’m going on a vacation.”
“The key’s the key.”
A meeting in the rain.
Black heels.
‘When darkness comes, and pain is all around…’
And The Caprica Times’ opinion of a summary for the first half of season 1:
‘Was love the reason that everything fell apart? Or were you and I the ones to blame?’
Captain Ahab – the musicians behind the robotic love song Zoe Graystone was dancing to in Friday’s episode, Gravedancing – has decided to release it to download for free! Get “Was Love” at their bandcamp.com site.
For more information on how that song and others from Gravedancing came to be, check out Bear McCreary’s blog. He has a fascinating look at how the themes of Caprica are developed along with clips of the songs as he describes them to listen to. One highlight is the song from the radio in Sam Adama’s car and the eerie way that the instruments from Caprica were blended in to underscore Amanda Graystone’s climbing dread.

Also a better quality version of Sam Adama’s ringtone has been uploaded as well as the version of Clarice Willow’s ringtone that aired on Friday.

If anyone was concerned that the show was in danger of being cancelled, worry no more! Airlock Alpha has an interview with Mark Stern, Syfy’s EVP of original programming, saying that they will be backing Caprica through and through.
In fact, Caprica’s fame has reached an Earth friend of ours, The New York Times. The article goes into depth about the old car models used on Caprica and how they add ambience to the show. Richard Hudolin, the production designer, mentions that a mixing of old and new technologies was also used on Battlestar Galactica.
These cars have been prominent in the life of Amanda Graystone, first whisking her away to saftey after her announcement at the memorial ceremony and later bringing her in harms way during a ride home from Baxter Sarno’s talk show. The actress who plays Amanda, Paula Malcomson, was recently interviewed by tvstar.com. During the interview she talks about how playing a character on Caprica relates to real life.
If you want to bring Caprica in to your real life you may be in luck! Cast and crew members from Caprica including Ronald D. Moore, David Eick, Paula Malcomson, Polly Walker, Alessandra Torresani, Magda Apanowicz and Sasha Roiz will be appearing at the Paley Center in NYC for a special Caprica Panel on March 17 at 6:30pm. Tickets go on sale to the general public Wednesday.
Be sure to tune in next week for the revival of Tamara Adama played by Genevieve Buechner!
Chicago Now explains Sam Adama’s tattoos in their interview with writer Jane Espenson. Every tattoo is explained as they go into great detail as to what all of the markings mean and how they relate to Sam’s personal life. It’s clear that Sam has a rich past that drive his motivations. Catch him in tomorrow’s episode, Gravedancing, to see whether or not he goes through with the hit his brother Joseph has asked him to carry out.
